OUR

MINISTRIES

We are committed to reaching as many people as we can with the love of Jesus.

We regularly take part in these ministries and offer them to you and your family.

Missions

We Support Missionaries individually as well as through cooperative programs of the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia (SBCV).

We also send out groups from our church on short term mission trips to partner with established church ministries and church planting projects.  These pictures are from our latest trips.

In the top picture, Eddie McDonald led an evangelism outreach to the Amazon in Brazil.  We were privileged to partner with Joel Johnson and Wordless Ministries (notice our cool “Wordless Soccer Ball”!) and missionaries Brad and Melissa Miller.

In the bottom picture, Pastor Sam went to India to visit one of the missionaries we support, Pastor Roy Mortha. Sam had opportunities to preach in local villages and train local pastors.  He and the team also helped to start AWANA Clubs there.

FSBC’s global mission trips, we have been blessed to partner with other doctrinally sound churches as we proclaim the gospel and Jesus Christ.  Join us as we make Christ known around the world!

Kid's Ministry

On Wednesdays from 7:00-8:00 during the school year we offer AWANA Clubs (this includes Bible lessons, games, and Bible memorization) for kids ages 3 to 6th grade.  We also have youth group for 7-12th graders on Wednesday nights.

Sunday School is available for children of all ages Sunday mornings.

During the summer we hold a Vacation Bible School (usually in June).  We also have kids Bible Club at on Wednesday nights during the summer.

Men's & Women's Ministry

We are glad to invest in the men of our church and community.

The Men’s Monthly Fellowship Breakfast invites men and boys to a monthly men’s fellowship to be held in the greater Altavista, Hurt, & Gretna areas at 8:45 a.m. Our desire is for men to rediscover their God-given role as leaders in the home, community, and nation. Come be challenged, encouraged, strengthened, and well fed!  Each month we will have a service project planned to help out those in need – just what we need to work off a men's breakfast!  Currently we partner with other churched in the community and rotate our location.  See our Events page for details.

Ladies are invited to join one of our Ladies Bible studies taught by gifted women in our church. Our goal is that you would be equipped to disciple others as you grow together as sisters, study, and worship!

Community Outreach

Our church reaches out to the immediate communities of Hurt and Altavista, and what a blessing it is!

We invite kids from the community for our annual Easter egg hunt in the spring. In the summer months we set up a gigantic slip and slide and grill out, or have a family movie night with ice cream and all the fixings.  In the fall we hold our annual (and larger than life) Harvest Festival, complete with hay rides, stew, hot dogs, face painting, and lots more.  At Christmas we collect gifts for children in need and while also delivering presents to folks in the nursing home as we carol.

Come increase your joy as we bless our community with the love of Jesus!

Discipleship

The Great Commission given in Matthew 28:19-20 is not given to a select few, but to everyone!  Disciples of Jesus make disciples of Jesus.

Discipleship is a lifestyle.  From the local coffee shop or the workplace break room to the neighborhood block party or family vacation, discipleship opportunities abound!

FSBC is committed to teaching and encouraging discipleship at every level.  Join us as we baptize and teach disciples of Jesus everything He commanded!

Volunteer Groups

Our church also ministers both collectively and individually as we partner with various community service projects or parachurch organizations.  Whether it’s our local community trash pick-up day, searching meals, or packing shoe boxes for Samaritan’s Purse’s Operation at Christmas, we want to be the servant leaders Jesus has called us to be.

You don’t want to miss these opportunities to impact our community and the world!
